just call me four-eyes

glasses: BonLook shirt: Loft skirt, belt: J.Crew boots: Frye clutch: Anthropologie necklace: The Bauble Dept.

I got my first pair of glasses in the third grade.  It was pretty exciting picking out those black and purple wire frames.  You know, the really big, really round kind that did nothing for my tiny but extremely round face?  Glasses weren't necessarily uncool then, and mostly I was just excited to be able to see stuff.  I had no idea what I was missing out on all that time.

Then, seventh grade started.  It is really ridiculously difficult to be cool in seventh grade, and my glasses weren't helping me out one bit.  So I traded them in for a pair of contact lenses and instant "cool points." Ahem.

Now, I'm having fun swapping back and forth between glasses and contacts.  Especially since I got my first pair of BonLook frames.  By far, the most fun pair of glasses I have ever owned.  Their virtual try-on was perfect for me, since I live in the country and do most of my shopping online anyway.  Come to think of it, 75% of my outfit was purchased online.  Same goes for the rest of my closet.  And I wouldn't even have any shoes at all if it wasn't for Zappos.

Speaking of this outfit, it was completely copied inspired by Duni, the owner of a gorgeous Etsy shop and blog who posted the most lovely photos of her birthday that I just adored.

Speaking of Etsy...

Just kidding.  This post could go on forever like this.  Plus, you already know I have an Etsy shop.   And if you didn't, now you do!

  1. Ah, the birthday outfit, like yours too! I hated getting glasses, I was 13 and in one month I needed glasses and braces, both very uncool when you're 13.

    1. Thank you! Aw, I bet that was a tough month! Although, I have to admit, there was a short time when I wanted braces myself because I though they looked cool :)

  2. Allison, I simply LOVE your take on the mint and black theme!!!
And I'm a "four-eyes" too. haha. Got mine at 13 like Marieken, but
I usually wear contacts when I go out. The pair of glasses you chose
    suit you very well.

p.s. Thank you for the link love :)

  3. I absolutely love your outfit! : ) I'm the only one in my family who doesn't wear glasses - although it would be fun to try out some lenses!

  5. I got my first pair of glasses in 8th grade, but quickly changed to contacts because I told my parents I'd rather be blind at summer camp than wear my glasses. I'm just starting to love my glasses and switch back and forth between them and my contacts.

  9. I LOVE those glasses! I am currently shopping for a new pair. I went through the awkward 7th grader wearing glasses phase too, don't feel bad. Unfortunately, I was also in 7th grade when Harry Potter came out. So, I was a brown haired, freckled, pale skinned girl with round glasses. Sigh. That year was a toughie, haha!

  11. When I was in about 2nd grade I pretended I couldn't see because I thought glasses were so cool. I took an eye test and passed and was so upset! Haha

You look fantastic! Love the skirt! I adore J. Crew. It's probably getting unhealthy. :)

    1. Haha. I remember a girl in elementary school coming to class all of a sudden with glasses one day, and some of the kids gave her a hard time because she was "faking" it. You weren't the only one! :)

  13. I had always wanted glasses growing up... my "dream" was fulfilled the year following my college graduation. I liked the way the looked but hated the functionality. I wasn't able to do contacts (yet) and when I played a sport or sweated for that matter, they drove me crazy. And often gave me headaches. I finally got contacts right before our wedding (that was a must if I intended to see the groom) and now I can jump back and forth! I mostly do contacts though. :) I'll have to check out the BonLook!

  14. I've had glasses since first grade, and I totally traded in mine for contacts for instant cool points too. But now I just like the convenience of glasses haha! Your outfit is pretty, the colors and striped print go so well together. You look gorgeous, and are totally rocking those glasses. Four eyes for the win! :)

    Cheers!

  17. You look so cute, and the town you're in is also adorable! I want a building with chippy white bricks! :-)

I got glasses in kindergarden. Back then I was so young that being cool didn't even register yet, haha. Now I wear contacts unless my eyes are REALLY tired. (Fun fact! My vision is so poor that I can't buy glasses online. Womp, womp.)
